The Placeholder Map Gives Way
The map of coloured squares was replaced by the real tileset — and by real maps.
The first map was drawn with placeholder tiles: enough to prove that walking worked, and no more than that. The real tileset was cut into an atlas and catalogued piece by piece, and the world was drawn again with it.
Four maps came out of that: a terrain test, an object test, the first city and the first proper map. Gates started to carry the player from one map to another, and the game learned to save.
